Once upon a time, during Grandpa Mickey's good old-time family reunion, on the shores of Tampa Bay, we sat around an open fire munching on Grandpa Mickey's special recipe, boiled peanuts. Customarily people would dry roast peanuts for a good down-home snack. As it happened in many southern families the boiled peanut conjured up wonderful thoughts of family gatherings and picnics under the old oak tree. My family loved the secret recipe boiled peanuts. In fact some of the local folk seemed to get addicted to this treat in no time flat. Before long, everyone requested Mickey's special blend of boiled peanuts. It was a treat when holidays rolled around and you could smell those peanuts cooking. Families rode out on weekends just to purchase Mickey's wonderful peanuts. Roadside stands began to pop-up everywhere. People rode by the stands to get the special blend. It became a tradition in the south to get fresh boiled peanuts from a roadside stand. The tradition continues to this day.
